INFORMATION OF COSTA RICA

 

The Costa Rican first tourist was Christopher Columbus, who come to our country in 1502, on his fourth and final trip, he arrived on the Caribbean coast at Cariari near Puerto Limon. According to Costa Rican historian's he called to our  country "Costa Rica" for all the wounders who found ther.

Costa Rica is located at the southern end of Central America between two continents and two oceans: North America, South America, The Atlantic and the Pacific oceans. Its neighboring countries are Panama on the southern border and Nicaragua on the north.

The main export products are tourism, coffee and bananas. Other important exports are beef, sugar, fertilizers and Industrial products. Costa Rica enjoys the advantages of the perfect tropical climate with an average temperature of 22 C (72 F). There is a green season or winter from May to November and the dryer summer months last from December through April.

Although it is small country ( approximately 19 600 square milles) Costa Rica contains a great diversity of tropical habitats from sea level to over 3800 m, elevation, and it encircles more than fifteen distinct life zones. This diversity is reflected in its rich flora and fauna, containing 4% of the planets total species. Costa Rica be the only country in the world to have many bird species (830 species), more than all of North America & Mexico. Nearly 550 species of butterflies have been recorded in the country. Habitats include two seacoast, highland and lowland forest sub alpine barren, marshes, rivers, lagoons and forest swamps. An extraordinary system of national parks and private conservation areas strives to protect 31% of the national territory. These wildlife areas provide sanctuary to many species threatened by extinction due to the unchecked growth of certain economic activities.
